GSM Valtech

Founded in 1974, GSM Graphic Arts was the founding company of the GSM group. Based in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, they specialised in the manufacture of metal nameplates and labels. Rapid growth followed and in 1979, Valtech Industries was purchased and moved to the Thirsk site, bringing machining and fabricating capabilities to GSM for the first time. Valtech specialised in products for laboratories, including machined pressure receptacles and magnetic stirring units. Sheet metal capability was later added with the introduction of CNC punching and folding equipment.

With demand increasing year on year, additional premises were sought and in 1997, GSM purchased the metalwork fabrication site of Farnell Electronics. GSM Valtech’s operations were transferred to the Wetherby site, increasing the manufacturing area to 28,000 sq ft and gaining staff with 40 years’ experience in manufacturing electronic enclosures.

Substantial investment followed which allowed GSM Valtech to offer a first-class manufacturing service. A huge overhaul of the IT and Operations was overseen including the installation of a bar code data capture system, allowing for up to date production information and accurate costing.
